The Kano State government, on Sunday, May 16 directed pupils and students across the state to return to school on Monday, May 17 following the conclusion of the Eid el-Fitri holiday.

The resumption instructions were contained in a statement issued by the state Commissioner for Education, Malam Muhammad Sanusi-Kiru, through the ministry’s spokesman, Mr Aliyu Yusuf, saying that defaulting pupils and students would be sanctioned.

The directive, however, does not cover the 36 boarding schools that the government had ordered to be shut earlier in the year on security grounds.

The statement further warned that government would not fold its arms and look the other way while students and parents chose the day convenient for the children to return to school.
